Why Volunteer With Us?
Social Media Manager
5-6 hours per week (flexible hours)
The Social Media Manager will help Safe Haven Detroit, INC. grow its online presence and engage the community through consistent, creative, and mission-driven content.
Responsibilities:
-
Develop and schedule posts across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, etc.)
-
Create engaging graphics, videos, and written content that align with Safe Haven’s mission
-
Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages, and report insights
-
Collaborate with staff to promote events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities
Requirements:
-
Experience with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Meta Business Suite)
-
Strong writing and communication skills
-
Passion for community service and advocacy for homelessness prevention
-
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Grant Writer
35 hours per month (flexible; remote work possible
The Grant Writer will support Safe Haven Detroit, INC. by researching funding opportunities and writing proposals to secure financial support for phase one of our housing initiative.
Responsibilities:

Research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies

Draft, edit, and submit proposals and letters of inquiry

Maintain a calendar of deadlines and reporting requirements
-
Work with leadership to gather data and success stories for applications
Requirements:
-
Strong writing and research skills
-
Experience with grant writing or nonprofit fundraising preferred

Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
-
Commitment to Safe Haven Detroit’s mission and values
Canvasser
15–25 hours per month (includes some evenings and weekends)
The Canvasser will represent Safe Haven Detroit, INC. in the community—helping raise awareness about our mission and vision, discuss which phase Safe Haven is currently in, future programs, and gather community support.
Responsibilities:

Go door-to-door or attend community events to share information about Safe Haven’s mission, vision, and phases.

Distribute flyers, brochures, and other outreach materials

Collect contact information for potential volunteers, donors, and clients

Serve as a positive, professional ambassador for Safe Haven Detroit
Requirements:
-
Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable speaking with the public

Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally in Detroit
-
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
-
Passion for helping individuals experiencing homelessness
Fundraiser
20–30 hours per month (varies by event schedule)
The Fundraiser will help plan and execute events, campaigns, and partnerships that raise money to support Safe Haven Detroit, INC.’s housing and outreach programs.
Responsibilities:

Assist with planning and coordinating fundraising events and campaigns

Reach out to potential sponsors, donors, and community partners

Help promote fundraising activities on social media and in the community

Track donations and assist in donor appreciation efforts
Requirements:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Experience in fundraising, sales, or event planning is a plus

Enthusiasm for building community partnerships
